Kaupapa Maori Early Childhood Center - Located In Tauranga, Bay Of Plenty

Te Puna Reo o Pukehinahina is a purpose built centre on Gate Pā school grounds established by whānau o Pukehinahina in 2015.  We offer quality early childhood education in a kaupapa Māori, full immersion setting.

Our kaiako are passionate about Te Ao Māori, early childhood education and are speakers of Te Reo Māori.  We believe in making learning fun by following the child’s interests, encouraging play, exploration and risk-taking in a supportive, nurturing environment

Our marautanga/curriculum is designed around concepts  of Te Ao Māori, matauranga, kaitiakitanga, tuaka teina.  Tamariki here have priority into te kura rumaki o Te Kura o Pukehinahina/Gate Pā School.  As teina of Gate Pā school, we have access to the school grounds, library and participation in the rumaki programme.

Learn About Te Puna Reo o Pukehinahina

Our Pou Ako are drawn from the great deeds told about our Rangatira Māori whom were present and led defensive parties at te Pakanga o Pukehinahina in 1864.  Despite the contrast in weaponry, tikanga and kawa were honoured and maintained, great compassion and empathy was shown, ingenuity and resourcefulness was valued and applied to solve problems.

Our marautanga/curriculum is strongly embedded in play-based learning with our kaiako advancing our tamariki by uplifting them as individuals.

This is marautanga which is built on individual tamariki interests and needs; child –initiated in a natural environment which encourages exploration and testing, using all the senses and space to revisit.
